HEART FOUNDATION FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE |
Inspired by a very dear friend of mine I will be donating 5% of all my annual earnings to the Heart Foundation. Beth Lismanis was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in February 2008, as a result of a virus, and this illness had an immediate and drastic effect on her life. As a committed and energetic group fitness instructor Beth was an inspiration to everyone who attended her classes as she always gave her absolute best. With her diagnosis she was forced to give up the work she loved doing and had to make significant changes to her daily life. For someone who had dedicated many years to the fitness industry and loved being active and strong this came as a huge blow.
There is a common misconception that heart disease is something that happens to older people who may not have made the best lifestyle choices in their lives, but the reality is that it can also strike those who are young, fit and healthy, as is the case with Beth
These days Beth lives with her condition with a smile and a positive attitude and continues to be as active as she can be despite her new challenges. Not only a devoted mum and wife, Beth is also studying to be a school teacher, works part-time and continues to channel a huge amount of energy into all areas of her life. Beth’s story is a reminder to me that health and fitness are something to be treasured and never taken for granted – if I am having a low energy day and don’t feel like training I remind myself how lucky I am to have the choice and just get on with it!
The Heart Foundation does so much great work in raising public awareness of heart disease and in the area of research, so you can feel good knowing that part of every dollar you spend with Mobility Personal Training will be going to a really worthwhile cause.
